Java for 64-bit Firefox?
I'm playing with the LiveCD of Xubuntu 8.04 and was very pleased with getting things to work automagically.

Until....

I wanted to test if I could get Java to work for Firefox. After installing the suggested plugins, Firefox just freezes when I try to load an applet.

Is there really still no 64-bit Java plugin yet? When I ran 64-bit Gentoo about three years ago I had a 32-bit Firefox and just used 32-bit plugins for it. Are we still doing that today?

So.... where's the best workaround?

ETA: According to these two posts, there is currently no supported 64-bit Java plugin for Firefox. There do seem to be "officially supported" workarounds...
