Anyone here familiar with Ubuntu? (before you yell at me, yes, I tried posting in the previous poster's ubuntu community. But there are only like 3 users so far).
Simple question: How do I change it in Ubuntu so I can boot into just a console instead of X?
I looked at my /etc/inittab, but it seems as though runlevels 2-5 are all the same. Then 1 is single user mode, and 6 is reboot. This is what it looks like:

I tried runlevel 2 (default) and 3, but they both boot into the graphical Ubuntu login screen.
Fedora Core 3 - Dual Head
Greetings all! Need some advice, I'm currently trying to setup dual head with a Shuttle MN31N motherboard (nforce2/integrated dual video) and X will not start as I'm getting "Entity already in use" in the xorg.log. (setup using system-config-display) Anyone get this to run on their box? I've googled for 2 hours now but I haven't found much useful information. Anyone willing to share their xorg.conf?

Setting up associations in Evolution?
How do I add/edit the applications that open attachments in Evolution email reader? Thanks in advance.
USB committed suicide
Ok... I know how annoying this is going to be for everyone, but I'm completely at the end of my rope. For the record, I'm running FC3 with kernels 2.6.9-1.667 though .681_FC3 installed on my system.

The famous last words... "I did something to my computer..." to where no USB devices are now working. Returns nothing, and quite obviously /var/log/messages is useless too. I've checked Udev for anything USB related. I've made sure that hardware is working fine - both the devices and the on-board USB. I've used a couple of older kernels just to be sure. But without any kind of an error to guide me, I'm now lost. The only signs of life I can get out of the box regarding USB is when I load or unload the uhci_hdc module. Here are the results, though they both look pretty normal to me.

I know it's not likely that I'll be able to get specific help for my problem, but maybe I can get some ideas on what to look for, or what else to try. Thanks in advance.

Current Mood: bitchy
chmod Script
Is there any way to do a recursive chmod that only hits directories or only hits file?

I've looked at this once, and I figure there's a way to do it, but I couldn't find it.

Basically, what I want to do is two steps:

1. chmod -R 775 all_dirs
2. chmod -R 664 all_files

The problem is I don't know how to make chmod find just dirs or just files. I haven't looked into any heavy scripting (anything beyond using a script to run an app with certain options) so I don't really know what I'd do there besides:

(pseudo, heh)
If target = dir then chmod 775 target
ElseIf target != dir then chmod 664 target

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
2.4.x to 2.6.x upgrade
I'm running slackware 10 with the 2.4.26 kernel and I've been considering switching to the 2.6.10 kernel. The only texts I've found talk about 2.6.0-test and the early days of 2.6.
Will I need to upgrade or change GCC or other programs? I know I'll have to recompile my nVidia driver, what else?
