l10n of Linux
i wonder about l10n of Linux
the only thing i need in fact from l10n is the nice font understandings together with posix english sys msgs
so....infact there should be no true l10n

but....

when i put smth like this
export LC_ALL=ru_RU.KOI8-R
export LC_MESSAGES=POSIX

to the profile it still handles all the sys mesg in russian

but as soon as i give
export LC_ALL=POSIX
export LANGUAGE=ru_RU.KOI8-R

the sys msgs are fine, but i get  ??????? marks in KDE konsole instead of russian font, though there's nothing wrong with it in core console & Xaps

& btw, funny thing, the size of my VGA graphical console frame buffer, which was enabled through LILO doesn't fit the size of my X desktop, i mean that there's no way to put them nicely on the display (centered. tiled, etc) at once! :)
what's wrong with it?

question
I am considering switching to Redhat Linux and am doing research on it before I do the switch. My question is how compatible is it with other systems. Has anyone here had many problems with send/receiving docs? I realize that the answers here will be a bit biased but how happy are you with your Linux OS?

Printing Setup
I'm trying to set up an Epson 880 connected locally via USB to a computer running Yellow Dog Linux 2.3 (PPC port of Red Hat), and have had absolulty no success. It can see the printer on the bus when I type:

more /proc/bus/usb/devices

but beyond that, I can't find any way to designate it as the system's printer. Help, I'm a noob!

Thanks!
