process kill
I program on linux alot but, *sigh* even I make mistakes. This causes my program to lock up, or (when im coding ogl stuff and the key code dosnt work) Im stuck in the program. I need a way to kill my program when its stuck in full screen/locked up and I cannt control it. I would have to do this threw another desktop(or what ever its called when you do ctrl+alt+Fx).

So how would I do this?

Current Mood: confused
hrm, well as the rest of the world has moved to monsterous and buggy (and slow compiling) 'desktop enviroments', i remain strong in my use of console, in fact i refer to myself as a console-e (note how friendly and helpful it makes me sound, yanno so im not so scary to the rest). I just installed slack 8.1 on a server for the .edu, and while installing i noticied a new (?) text based browser called 'links' (no thats not a typo on 'lynx'), i kinda like it so far, it supports frames and is pretty quick and seems to work fine with like javascripts window.open, i havent tried it with ssl yet, but i think i might have a lynx replacement.
anyone else used this yet?
starting x
ok i've been trying to fix this for a few days, and i've come across some problems:

i've installed slackware 8.1 on /hda1, swap on /hda2, and winxp on /hda3.

upon booting into linux, it doesn't start x. i think it tries to start x, as the screen flickers, but in the end i get some fatal IO errors at the end of the output.

i talked to a couple friends of mine who use linux, and they advised me to ' fdisk /mbr ' and reinstall. however, upon trying this i get the output ' Unable to locate /mbr '

any suggestions?

oh, and this may be of some help: my video card is ABIT Siluro nVIDIA GeForce 2.

Fallout 1 in WINE
I've just installed Fallout 1. When I run it, it starts up and displays the "please stand by" screen, then displays the animation of the rocket orbiting the earth. A few frames into this animation, the program stops and just sits there, eating my CPU cycles. It does the same thing with both versions 1.0 and 1.1. Any idea how to get it to work? Here's WINE's output:

chrisa@bug:~/.wine/fake_windows/Program Files/Interplay/Fallout$ wine falloutw.exe
Invoking /usr/bin/wine.bin falloutw.exe ...
