Usernames that start with numbers?
Is there any particular reason that a username can't start with a digit? I'm migrating a Windows web server to linux and I have some users with usernames starting with digits. If I add them with useradd I get the following error:
adduser: invalid user name `12person'
If I etc /etc/password manually it seems to work just fine. Is it a bad idea to have usernames that start with digits? Is there any way around this? I don't want to do external authentication (AAA, LDAP), it should be local to this box. Any ideas?
