Hello people, I'm new to this community and for the very most part, new to using Linux. I installed Red Hat 7 on my machine that I use windows on, because I don't have another machine that I can work with that I think will work at all with what I'm trying to learn. Anyhow, I got everything installed, but the only problem I'm having right now seems to be with PPP. See, I don't quite understand what I need to do, even though I have a rather large book full of information, as well as the whole internet... I know that I was using a winmodem that I found a driver for, and was able to make my modem dial up to my ISP and hold a connection, though, no data was able to be transferred with Netscape.. and it gave me several messages about the DNS. Another thing that's happening is that my computer is not detecting my modem when I use the wizard, but it works when using /dev/modem/ instead of say /dev/ttyS0.

I really don't know what I'm doing but I have a goal in mind, and from what I've read i've seen many things that seem to be over my head, like talk about compiling the kernel..

Can anyone make any sense out of what I'm saying? If so, can you help me?

Oh yes, and kppp was giving me an error message like "ppp daemon timed out unexpectedly"
