Alpha Centauri patch problems

I came across a copy of Loki game's Alpha Centauri recently and have just done a fresh install. However, I keep getting the same error when I try to apply the 6.0a patch, no matter where I download it from.

The error is ./update.sh: line 60: 25059 Segmentation fault loki_patch --verify patch.dat

Anyone else come across this problem?

Alright, after much gnashing of teeth and everything-including-the-kitchen-sink google searches, I found out that the static loki_patch binary that's included with the patch has a problem with most later distributions including Red Hat and Debian.

So, a "sh --keep" unpacks the whole deal, allowing me to download a new version of the loki_patch binary found here and replace the defective version. Running the extracted patch manually worked fine.

Other fix

Didn't try that, but http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/archive/2/2004/01/4/55591
did it for SMAC on my Debian Sarge 20040612. D0M1N8R posted the solution.

Re: Problems

I'm having the same problem - looking for a solution with google when I found this thread. Also, the same happens when trying to run Railroad Tycoon II. I have been suggested this is due to a "too new" glibc and to look for a way to install multiple versions on the same platform.

But I have no answer to that. Do you ?
